Special Council Meeting
The Bessemer City Council held a Special Meeting on May 25, 2012 at noon in the Council Chambers of City Hall. Proper notice was given.
Members Present
Mayor Becky Smith; Council Members: Howard Jones, Alfred Carpenter, Donnie Griffin, Joe Will and Kay McCathen. Council Member Dan Boling was absent due to illness. Janice Costner, Interim City Manager was also present.
Call to Order
Mayor Smith called the meeting to order, stating the purpose of the meeting was 1) continued discussion of final two candidates for the City Manager’s position, and 2) appointment to fill upcoming vacancy on the Bessemer City ABC Board.
Closed Session – Personnel Matter
Upon motion by Howard Jones and unanimous vote, a closed session was held to further consider candidates for the Manager’s position as permitted under GS 143-318.11(a)(6).
Upon return from closed session, Mayor Smith reported that a closed session was held to discuss candidates for the Manager’s position. No action was taken.
Motion was then made by Joe Will to make a conditional offer to Mr. James Inman depending on salary and other benefits to be discussed at a Special Meeting to be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 3:00 PM. Vote was unanimous.
Motion was also made by Howard Jones to endorse the promotion of City Planner, Kevin Krouse, as Assistant City Manager. Said promotion to be made by the Interim City Manager will come with a 10% increase in salary and become effective on July 1, 2012. Vote was unanimous.
Appointment to ABC Board
The appointment to the ABC Board was continued until the May 29th Special Meeting by motion of Alfred Carpenter with unanimous vote.
Adjourn
There being no further business, the meeting was unanimously adjourned at 12:35 PM by motion of Howard Jones.
